Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Philippe L — 13 Apr 2009
This felt more like a snapshot rather than an actual film! It was so short, and it was entirely set in the present, with no insight into what happened previous to events or what will happen in the future. But when you don't get any info it's fun trying to work things out!
Michelle Williams was really good in the title role: she had perpetually-pissed-off-at-the-world down to a tee! And of course, the dog was a cutie. I really liked the store clerk as well - what an annoying creature he was! But bit characters weren't in it enough to make a real impact, it was all about Williams' stark performance.
Altogether it's very bleak and sombre (even in the colours and shades used), but fascinating to watch. I don't think you journey with the character enough to feel much for her at the end though, and the eternal optimist in me says she would come back anyway! Hopefully...
