Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by M D — 24 May 2009
Although a hit for many a festival-goer and indie film fans this uneventful and observationally tedious film fails to build much, so saying it crumbles would not be an apt metaphor. While living out of her car on her way to Alaska, a girl loses her only best friend and spends most of the movie looking for her canine companion.
Strangers in the small town become both her biggest hurdle and her most important crutch. More emotion is garnered from her on-screen relations than rendered in the audience despite the universal, at least nationally, appeal to our friendships with dogs.
Not even her family cares much for her situation, and in giving up her dog she is truly alone.
