Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Brandon R — 01 Jan 2009
Love it or hate it, the minimalist storytelling makes for an interesting character study (amazingly controlled by Michelle Williams throughout), without giving us much of a characterization (or plot) at all.
You can second guess the choices and decisions made, but, ultimately, this movie provides some larger truths about America today with a graceful subtlety (its bureaucracy, its independence, its random kindness, its helplessness, and its hope).
It's not just a movie about a girl and her dog, people (though it can be, I guess).
