Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Ken C — 19 Dec 2010
I'm never watching this goddamn movie ever again.
I'm a dog lover and I take good care of all my pets but seeing a grown woman traveling by herself in a state she's never traveled to with her dog being her only companion, only to have the dog lost...I just can't handle it. The movie is already pretty realistic and puts you in Wendy's position all the way to the end. But Wendy is a fucking idiot. It's her own fault that all of this unfortunate shit keeps happening to her because she didn't come prepared enough for the trip.
Ok before I go on telling you about how big of an idiot this girl is let me just break it down to you what happens in the movie.
It all starts with Wendy the main character running low on dog food for her dog Lucy. Both of them are on their way to Alaska to live there for now on but she only brought one bag of dog food and money that she saved only for her new life in Alaska so she can't spend any of it on her trip. So she runs out of dog food and has no money to pay for more so she's gotta steal some. She gets busted, her dog gets stolen, and from here on in she just keeps getting higher and higher up shit creek. If only she came fucking prepared for her trip and provided more for her dog she wouldn't be in such misery the whole movie. While she looks for her dog everybody acts like an asshole to her, and I know what it's like because I used to live in Oregon so I know exactly how assholy the people there act. The only nice guy she meets is this nice guard who stands in front of a store all day. He helps her out in helping her find her dog by letting her use his phone and giving her directions and so fourth.
All this stressful stuff just keeps piling up and never seems to get lighter not even at the end. I'll try my best not to spoil anything so i'll just say that movie ends happy, but sad. If your a lover of animals then this movie will depress the fucking shit out of you like it did to me. I hate this movie for the same reasons that I love it, it's realistic, well made, and heart breaking. Watch this if you want to but I wouldn't reccomend it to anybody who can't bear the sight of losing a friend or in this movie's case, a best friend.
