Review of Welcome to the Sticks (2008) by Thomas M — 06 Jan 2009
Not my cup of tea. the dialect thing gets old (and in fact annoying) after 5 minutes, many of the jokes are so-so-funny at best, the story is cute and heart-warming but we've been told the same thing better quite a few times (but I guess you need that kind of middle-of-the-road-story to drag one third of a nation's population into the cinemas).
downright annoying is the overacted and overly stupid mother (the north of france is just below the north pole? what are the british to say?! this isn't funny even in the first second, but it's not only mentioned once or twice; it's actually a major element of the plot).
certainly has its moments, but a really laugh-out-loud one wasn't in it for me.
