Review of Welcome to the Rileys (2010) by Manny C — 01 Feb 2011
Kristen Stewart playing a stripper in New Orleans, and moonlighting as a hooker? James Gandolfini as a married man juggling creepy feelings of taking care of her, but also maybe, possibly doing her? Welcome To The Rileys. That's the name of the movie with that outrageous premise.
Stewart runs with the role, being a little more edgy than she normally is, while Gandolfini invests himself in his role with everything he has. His nice and gentle side is great, but the other side that seems to look lasciviously as Stewart's lap dancer is just too creepy to get through. I liked Melissa Leo more as his wife, suffering from agoraphobia. Welcome To The Rileys is terribly bland though, and I don't necessarily blame that on director Jake Scott (Ridley's son). The main culprit is Ken Hixon's script. This one's a huge letdown, and nothing to bother remembering.
