Review of Welcome to the Rileys (2010) by Kristina K — 11 Apr 2011
Amazing performances from both Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart who happens to be one of my favorite up and coming actress. She picks the right (sometimes perfect) roles and mixes indie films with blockbuster hits every single year since she came on the scene.
The movie also showcases Gandolfini as more than just a "gangster" from the "Sopranos" and he really shows his acting chops at several points in the film. As far as this movie goes the character she plays is a troubled teen that I find beautiful despite her dispositon and occupation as a stripper and whore.
She runs into Doug Riley (Gandolfini's character) and from there the interesting interactions begin. The plot stays very level throughout the film and the specific setting is one of the most realistic depictions of New Orleans I have seen in a film.
A thourough film that explores an odd relationship between a man who lost his daughter and essentially takes in a stray girl. The plot starts to fall apart a little when Doug's wife shows up but it get's back on track and she makes Doug's character even more interesting and complex.
My only complaint is that the film ended on a somewhat odd and unfulfilling note but I believe that to be intentional. Overall a great film that should be seen.
