Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by Peter C — 07 Apr 2013
Welcome To The Punch...
Shouting, tyre screeching, gunfire, brooding and a pulsating score fails to make up for a lack of depth and danger.
In other words, SOS: style over substance.
Dialogue suffers from Taggart syndrome: pronouncements devoid of feeling.
And, despite a sterling cast, there is little if any chemistry or characterisation. Only Peter Mullan adds sparkle to an otherwise formulaic crime caper.
Verdict: passable late night tv fodder.
After two duds in two days, it's time to turn to more cultural pursuits: getting pished watching the Scotland game.
Welcome To The Punch... You're welcome to it.
