Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by The D — 14 Apr 2013
Massively disappointing result from a thriller that promised so much with a cast which, for me, was to die for.
When a heist turns sour Jacob Sternwood(Strong) returns to London to try and resolve the issues. Waiting for him is Max Lewinsky(McAvoy), the cop who Sternwood evaded leaving him with a permanent limp.
Now the obvious way to go with this review has to come, the film's only punch is in the title of the dockland storage area where the film climaxes. Apart from the two leads there's strong support from Peter Mullan, David Morrissey, Daniel Mays & Andrea Riseborough. However the clear talent possessed by the cast is severely wasted. The fim just goes from one leap and supposed turn to an all too predictable conclusion. There's very little action but some occasional blood splattering but it's all too whimpersome.
