Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by Jon C — 28 Jul 2013
Not bad but I find myself thinking of the movie it could have been. Welcome to the Punch is stylish and shot beautifully but it just feels lacking everywhere else. You feel as though your dropped into the middle of the movie from the very beginning and the movie moves very quickly which is a detriment to the story and characters.
No backstory is given on the characters to show their motivations or give you an idea of where they're coming from except that Max is harboring hatred towards Jacob Sternwood for shooting him but nothing befor that point.
The twist to the movie towards the end feels rushed and you never really care about any of the characters. Why did I still give it 3 stars? Well I'm a sucker for cinematography and as I stated this movie is beautiful and the action scenes are redeming.
It can be enjoyable just don't go hoping for too much. If you like the actors in the movie check it out, otherwise you won't miss much to skip it.
