Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by Simon P — 03 Dec 2013
This was much better than I was expecting, I'll say that much. Always enjoy seeing James McAvoy and Mark Strong and, whilst the plot isn't wholly original, the performances more than make up for that. I'm a big fan of the cinematography used in every scene as well - I don't think London's ever been lit quite like this before. That we weren't treated to any cliche money shots of famous London landmarks is also a good thing.
It goes a wee bit gung-ho in the final third, but if you ignore the wafffffferrr-thin story and just settle down and enjoy watching the story unfurl (including an amusing yet surprisingly tense visit to someone's Nan), then you'll get a lot out of this. Looking forward to Creevy's next directorial effort.
PS. I had to smirk when Parking Pataweyo showed up. Sadly he lacked a black and white cat-aweyo, but he did have quite a bit of exposition.
