Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by Robert S — 17 Jan 2014
Great cast and the first half is a cool variation on the "Heat" dynamic but that's about it. Looks like it was shot with the same blue filter that half of Hong Kong and South Korea uses for their action movies, making London look like Michael Mann-Landia.
As much as is being made of its gun violence, the gunplay is extremely clumsy and I doubt the director knows how firearms work. It also pays lip-service to gun control, except it's in the context of armed POLICE, not armed private citizens, but that message is muddled when at least one copper gets straight up murdered because ___ is not armed.
By the third act, it morphs into the kind of overly complicated conspiracy thriller that happens a lot in European and UK crime dramas. Worth a look if it turns up unedited on cable.
