Review of Welcome to the Punch (2013) by Harry G — 20 Feb 2014
A desperate attempt to make a gritty British crime drama capable of competing with Hollywood production values, which it largely achieves (if we're only talking about production value). The dialogue is so bad that even the normally capable McAvoy and Strong look like they belong in a ham sandwich.
The plot is at once ridiculous and boring, and I've seen children's television with more subtle and complex character development. It just isn't a good film. Even the name is so self consciously 'happening' that it's annoying.
