Review of Welcome to the Jungle (2007) by Al M — 14 Dec 2011
The found-footage horror sub-genre was, of course, infamously inaugurated in the early 80s with Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust. Welcome to the Jungle adopts the found-footage format in an attempt to revitalize the relatively forgotten cannibal horror sub-genre that a brief heyday in the early 80s.
Welcome to the Jungle is not near as harrowing a journey as Cannibal Holocaust or other films like it (Make The Die Slowly, etc.). However, it manages to be a thoroughly twisted and respectable entry in the genre.
Unfortunately, the film is drug down a bit by its slow build-up to the final action; however, the final thirty minutes of the film pay off in truly brutal ways with a few indelible images worthy of Cannibal Holocaust.
