Review of Welcome to the Dollhouse (1996) by Dustin G — 18 Oct 2008
This is a weird, very offbeat comedy. Director Solondz is great at making these very often awkward films about outcasts and degenerates. This one's a little more toned down than some of his other films.
It's an interesting watch though, great performances. You can see the makers of Napolean Dynamite and Ghost World catching inspiration here. Also has a gritty real world feel, kind of like Larry Clark's Kids.
But less disturbing. Anyway, it's hard to explain. Just go rent it and see what you think.
