Review of Welcome to the Dollhouse (1996) by Gavin T — 04 Mar 2009
Very funny, subtle and relatable. Not quite as sick as Happiness and tamer than Palindromes - but still deals with the same typical dysfunctionality and horrid circumstances of Todd Solondz' other movies.
Dawn is gentle-natured and deeply misunderstood. By the end of the film you realise she's still subjugated but probably the coolest character by contrast. Her mother is a bitch, her brother is a geek, her sister is a spoiled brat, Steve is a manslut loser and Brandan is a f*cked-up bad boy.
