Review of Welcome to the Dollhouse (1996) by Robert D — 08 Nov 2009
One of my favorite dark comedies. A movie about an awkward 7th grader, named Dawn Wiener who is ridiculed by her classmates, and ignored by her parents, because they're too busy giving all they're attention to her annoyingly "cute" younger Sister, Missy, and her nerdy college-bound older Brother, Mark.
She only has one friend, named Ralphie, whos still in Elementary School, and she loves Steve Rodgers, one of Mark's Friends, and of course there is Brandon her main bully/stalker. On a daily basis she has to put up with one humiliating thing after the other, I'm surprised she didn't kill herself.
For those of us that have been long gone from Junior High will thank God, it's all over, but I wouldn't recommend this to the younger crowd too much traumatizing shit. It will probably not want to let them even step a foot in a middle school.
