Review of Welcome to Mooseport (2004) by Don S — 10 Jul 2011
Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors. He is incredibly versatile. Maura Tierney is someone I'll go out of my way to watch. They were both really good in this movie. Having been one of probably ten people in the US who has never watched "Everybody Loves Raymond," Ray Romano was the unknown factor. From this performance, I just don't get the appeal. Very dry sense of humor, very whiney acting style. He didn't ruin the movie for me, but he sure made it difficult for me to like it as much as I wanted to. The story is stupendously unbelievable, and that had much to do with stymying my enjoyment as well. Some funny bits, some too silly bits, much predictability. This should have been about half-hour shorter too. Worth watching, but you'll probably not fall in love with it.
