The critics who are bashing this don't understand it. The film had a clear remit, and demonstrated how Mark Hogancamp processed the impact of his brutal beating. The interlacing of the dolls in the movie represents the hurdles and assistance he's had in his life.

It's quite right that the film was made in the way it was. I'm sure many of these critics would do a much better job, right? lol.
