Review of Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005) by Simon T — 21 Sep 2007
Has a fairy tale like quality to it that has been said to be reminiscent of the (amazing) animated films of Hayao Miyazaki. I'm inclined to agree. The film concerns itself with the conflict between North and South Korea during the war. Although its anti-war message is not unique, it is told with such sincerity and skill that it doesn't matter.
The film is also quite humorous, which is a great accomplishment for a foreign film, as humor is often lost in translation, so to speak.
