Review of Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005) by Michael Y — 01 Nov 2008
A wonderful story about North and South Korean soldiers meeting in a village that knows nothing about war.
Wonderful story, great acting, good casting (especially Hye-jeong Kang, who plays Mi-do in Oldboy), good characters and nice imagery. This film has very similar themes to PCW's JSA but with less plot, less character and more symbolism.
The inexperience of the new director definitely doesn't show as he tells a story about the absurdity of war perfectly.
