Review of Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (2008) by Matt B — 10 Jul 2008
I did not hate the movie Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. And for anybody that knows me, that is a big surprise. It seems to me that the majority of "urban" movies perpetuates a black ste'reotype and I hate when movies do that. While this movie does do that, it doesn't do it nearly as much as Soul Plane. I liked Martin Lawrence, James Earl Jones, and Michael Clarke Duncan in this movie. What I didn't like, was Mo'Nique and whoever the hell played Reggie. They were just some of the most annoying characters ever in a movie. While the plot is extremely predictable, I still liked this movie. A little less Mo'Nique (and when I say a little less, I mean she shouldn't have even been in the movie) and this movie could have been better. I'm practically stunned that I enjoyed this movie.
Final grade: C.
