Review of Weirdsville (2007) by Scott M — 17 Jan 2008
Canadian films never tend to make a lot of noise when it comes to box office numbers or DVD releases, however, Weirdsville should be considered one of Canada's best films of all time. Here's why:
This film tells a tale of madness, satanistic cults, midgets, drug trips and robbery. All the fixens for a film that stays true to it's title.
This film had a lot of Canadian content and a lot of references to Canada, which you rarely see in Canadian films these days.
The comedy was there, it had some really funny parts and hilarious references and most importantly, the comedy wasn't dry. Everything seemed to just ease it's way out and the jokes flowed like waterfall. Another key factor was the filming style. Quick cuts, amazing post work and great shot selection during key plot points really enhanced the viewing pleasure of this film.
Great film, good laughs, and spectacular writing. Just a perfect combination to a fantastic film.
