Review of Weird Science (1985) by Michael K — 13 Aug 2009
John Hughes temporarily abandons the 'I hate my dad' dreariness of The Breakfast Club and makes perhaps the ultimate movie for teenage boys; two spotty high school nerds use their computer to create the perfect woman, only to have her come to life in form of stunning supermodel Kelly Le Brock! It may be daft but its fast, funny and has some superb moments of observational comedy.
Anthony Michael Hall turns in another likeable performance as the archetypal 80s nerd and the peerless Bill Paxton is simply hilarious as the meanest big brother in the history of cinema. Keep an eye out for Robert Downey Jnr in an early role and the funniest 'make-your-drunk-younger-brother-sick' gag ever.
