Review of Weird Science (1985) by Alex L — 27 Nov 2009

Good thing the premise of this movie is so unique, because I'm convinced that's the only reason people still watch it today. It's different in some ways than any other teen movie you've seen, and yet the embarrassing cheesiness, gross-out jokes, and juvenile humor will all seem unfortunately familiar if you've ever hung out with thirteen-year-old boys.

Also, you can pretty much outline the whole story in your head within the first fifteen minutes, minus all the absurdities, some of which serve no purpose other than to show off now outdated special effects.

The incongruent plot is scattered with so many discrepancies that the writers gave up trying to make it work. Rather, because the computer woman is omnipotent, she can just snap her fingers and make a dozen plot holes disappear.

Now thatâ??s just lazy writing, and frankly, John Hughes, I expected better from you.
