Review of Weird Science (1985) by Steph O — 29 Aug 2010
Two unpopular teenage boys decide to MAKE the perfect girl... using their computer. They seem to think this is completely possible, and get to work right away. In reality these idiots wouldn't be able to this... but in "Weird Science" their computer (and house) is struck by lightning. Problem solved. The special effects that pop up when they are doing this impossible thing are pretty hilarious by the way. But that's always the case when you're watching 80s movies.
It isn't one of the best John Hughes movies, but it's ridiculous enough that I can see why people find it amusing. Everyone but Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Bill Paxton were kind of infuriating in this movie. It's complete nonsense. I can see why people would like it. I won't be recommending "Weird Science" to John Hughes virgins anytime soon, but it isn't completely awful.
