Review of Weird Science (1985) by Dustin P — 28 Oct 2013
Odd and very wacky. I enjoyed some of the weirdness and was just confused by other parts.
At one point, the kids have a party, but hide in the bathroom the whole time. Lisa decides they need a challenge to bring the two kids out of their shells. She unleashes a mutant biker gang on the party and tells the boys that they must ask them to leave. This part was really fun and I think the movie could have used more stuff like this. It was wacky, but it was explained.
Then there are parts that were just odd and didn't really add anything of significance to the film. One of these parts was when the kids eventually try to create another woman for the two guys that have been bullying them. First of all, even after a half-hearted apology from the guys, why would these two kids want to help out these guys who have treated them so horribly. Secondly, when they try again, a bunch of random stupid things happen. The kitchen turns blue, some of the party guests end up on different TV channels, a picture of Wyatt's parents comes to life & they start dancing, and a bunch of things get sucked up the chimney and shot out into a nearby pond. It's all craziness for the sake of craziness. I didn't care for those kind of weird parts very much.
