Review of Weiner (2016) by J B — 26 Aug 2016
So we know how this story ends even before it begins. Anthony Weiner is not the Mayor of NYC. That said why would we watch it? For many of us that lived in NYC long enough to remember his work he really was a take no bull NYer. His downfall after those pictures were released made for good headlines.
It's frustrating to know that this man probably had really good ideas on how run the city but couldn't get anyone to listen. All the press wanted to do was sell newspapers and one of the women involved wanted to ride his downfall to the bank.
So why watch this movie? Because it gives great insight into the life of his wife and the real star of this movie, Huma Abedin, the woman who could end up being President Hillary Clinton's chief of staff. She has long been the mystery woman standing behind Clinton but we know so little about her, until now. You make up your own mind about her after seeing the movie. I respect her even more after seeing this film.
It's not the greatest doc about a politician, but if you are like me, a person that followed Weiner and saw him nightly on the local news Weiner will give you some closure on what exactly happened. If you want to see how New Yorkers speak their unfiltered minds it's also fun.
