Review of Weekend at Bernie's (1989) by Allen T — 02 Jun 2008
I woke up today and decided that today was the day I would finally see Weekend at Bernie's. Well, not quite...but I did see it for cheap and picked it up because I had never seen it. It was fun... a lot of fun actually- somewhat dark but not nearly as much as it could have been but completely ridiculous.
The boat scene especially had me cracking up. I was reminded immensely of Michael Scott throughout the movie, as something about this movie just embodied who he is. Not surprisingly it's the one movie reference he gets during the episode where the staff fictionally describes the way one of their relatives was killed by using various movie plots.
Also he had it (and the sequel) on his favorite movie list. Anyways, yes I had a real good time watching. Will I see the sequel- yeah, probably. I doubt it'll receive 4 stars however. I actually have no idea how a sequel would logically work for this movie.
Sure, I mean realism isn't really what this movie had going for it, but how are these two guys going to lug around Bernie for another 100 minutes, especially since the cops finally showed up. Not to mention all the sun, salt water and sand.
Wouldn't his corpse be getting pretty disgusting, and rotten? Sigh...it's on the queue.
