Review of Weekend at Bernie's (1989) by Jack V — 24 Jun 2011
Listen to (or read) this plot. Two business men discover a discrepancy in Bernie's (their boss) company. He rewards them by allowing them to spend time at his beach house, where he intends to have them murdered.
However, Bernie is murdered, leaving the two employees to discover him. What do they do? They pretend he is alive in order to stay at the beach house and have parties...Not joking. This film was hilarious, and though it was not a box office hit, it is still remembered for the premise.
Special recognition should go to Don Calfa, Bernie's (frequent) killer, and to Andrew McCarthy, who plays the party loving employee, Larry. Two criticisms I have are the love story, which seemed to serve no purpose, and a particularly creepy scene involving Bernie (dead) and "his woman".
..use your imagination. I highly recommend this film if you want a true comedy and are fed up with the frequent new comedies. I give it 5 corpses out of 5.
