Review of Weekend at Bernie's (1989) by Zachary R — 30 May 2013
This is a hilarious movie that can have you going on about what two hard working, down on there luck, guys will do to stay on top, at least for a little bit. Larry Wilson and Richard Parker are two guys who work at a rich business firm who have never gotten a head.
Larry is a bit of a playboy and Richard he's the character who has to play it straight but both can never get ahead. But one day the two men find out that money from the company was going to weird places that it should never have gone to, so they take it to their boss Bernie Lomax.
Once they get there to tell Bernie, Bernie is delighted that they found out about the problem and shut it down, so as a reward Bernie invites them to his resort house for a party over the weekend. Little do Larry and Richard know is that the money from the company has been going to the mafia with Bernie's help.
So, Bernie wants the Don to kill Larry and Richard to protect their investments. Little does Bernie know that the mafia Don wants him dead for he was sleeping with the Don's wife. So, once the weekend is here Larry and Richard find Bernie dead at his house with the mafia already killing him before Larry and Richard got there.
Once Larry and Richard find out that Bernie is dead; Richard wants to call the police. But like any natural story line Larry wants to drag out the fact that Bernie is still alive so they can have the time of their lives, which Richard agrees to.
All is well and good with hilarious results, but what's going to happen when the mafia finds out that Bernie still lives? A hilarious mixture of goofball humor with a satisfying taste. I give this film an 8 out of 10.
