Review of Weekend (2011) by Jacob S — 21 Sep 2012

I guess I'm still too young to understand how anyone can possibly fall in love within a short period of time. Nonetheless I deeply enjoyed this movie and I was completely engrossed by it.

The story is simple, on a Friday night Russel(Tom Cullen) goes to a bar where he meets Glen(Chris New). They have sex, and then spend the rest of the weekend being together where they bond, grow closer, and well, have more sex.

I must admit, I do not enjoy these types of movies. I can only think of a select few that I enjoyed, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and The Adjustment Bureau. Out of those movies the only one that I truly loved was Before Sunset. As much as I enjoyed Before Sunrise and The Adjustment Bureau, Before Sunrise tested my patience at some points and The Adjustment Bureau had trouble finding a consistent tone between it's Action, Si-FY, and romance elements. Weekend belongs with Before Sunset. I absolutely loved this movie.

Normally with films like this, it can be hard to hold an audience's attention since the whole time it's mostly just the two main characters talking, getting to know each other but this film completely had my attention from the start and never let go of it. I was invested in these two lives, I was able to connect to these two.

The dialogue was great and some of the things that are talked about throughout the film are interesting and true and are presented in an intelligent manner. Everything the characters said felt real and never was any of it uninteresting.(finish review later).
