Review of Weekend (2011) by Jeff T — 25 Sep 2011
I've got to be missing something here, or it just didn't connect with me personally on the level it did with those who are lauding it. It was an enjoyable diversion. The acting was well done and refreshingly honest, but it is yet another film where there is limited story and most of the time there wasn't something else there to sustain it for me.
I did want to join in on the one character's rant about straight society being okay with 'gays' as long as they normalize themselves to look and behave 'straight' as I in fact had the same fight with my Uncle Joe on my last ever family Christmas.
It might just be a film that suffers from the hype and I would probably have enjoyed it more with lower expectations. I didn't find anything particularly thrilling about the directing either though.
