Review of Weekend (2011) by David Ray G — 20 Apr 2012
Weekend is a beautifully-made film with a poignant love story - not just a gay love story, but one that applies to everyone no matter their sexuality. A story of every day people who lead every day lives; a real film about real people. The performances by the two main characters were fantastic and this movie made me feel nostalgic and needy.
My two problems with it were, firstly, the sound quality - I literally couldn't hear a lot of the dialog and that took away from it, because the dialog is in great part what this movie is based on. Also, I couldn't fully sympathize with the characters' lifestyle. As a gay man, I never led this kind of life, and as much as I would like to, it didn't appeal to me in this particular case.
However, I really enjoyed how an ostensibly simple film like this can truly speak in volumes. Truly well done - homosexuality is finally portrayed in the most realistic light.
