Review of We Were Soldiers (2002) by Christian John V — 30 Apr 2011
I find this movie underrated beyond belief. It is has a Zack Snyder feel to it, and is very energetic in the action sense, and it is beyond realisitic - it almost surpasses Saving Private Ryan's realistic violence on several levels.
Mel Gibson's role is of importance. Denis Leary's character fits perfectly into the film, surprisingly, creating a brilliant and original over-used man bent on the destruction of war. This film is quite captivating, if anything, and proves to be an amazing war film.
It uses slow motion most of the time, and it does indeed capture the pure insanity that combat soldiers must attempt to resolve.
