Review of We Were Soldiers (2002) by Antony G — 29 Nov 2011
Mel Gibson & a star studded cast play their part in what is possibly one of the best Vietnam based war film. The violence doesn't hold back either in this fact based war drama which strikes home the horrors the American soldiers faced in a war they were ill prepared for & facing combat they weren't trained for.
The film centres around the first combat between American & Vietnam soldiers & Mel Gibson's 1st Battalion 7th Cavalry, the same ill fated regiment of General Custer, as they fight against the odds in a battlefield the size of football pitch. Sean Penn also stars as a reporter/photographer who is called to arms while also capturing the horrifying images of young American soldiers dying for their country.
