Review of We Were Soldiers (2002) by Dean M — 16 Mar 2010
This has a lot of stereotypical war moment in it, but this particular movie is very well done. The violence is very heavy and very graphic, but necessarily so. This movie does a great job showing the human side to the Vietcong and demonstrates that truly all of them were just soldiers.
However, the more important and I think more powerful impact that this particular movie has, is that it takes a side about the job of soldiers. This movie doesn't try to be anti war and it doesn't try to push some kind of peace message. It shows the human side to soldiers, and it demonstrated the emotions involved. Also what it does incredibly effective is to show the effects on a commanding officer that is essentially responsible for all of the lives of his unit, yet he knows most of them won't be coming home.
This is truly one of my favorite war movies and in my opinion one of the better ones out there. Check this one out.
