Review of We Were Soldiers (2002) by Daniel H — 07 Jan 2019
The movie We Were Soldiers by the director Randall Wallace was made in the year 2002 by the company Icon Entertainment International, Motion Picture Production GmbH & Co. Erste KG Wheelhouse Entertainment. The movie shows the true events from the first battle of the Vietnam War, which was fought in the La Drang Valley of Vietnam. This movie shows three days in the life of some American soldiers during the battle. The plot of the movie also references General Custer, who famously died at the Battle of Little Bighorn. The new leader, L.t Col. Hal Moore worries about his battalion being massacred like Custerï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s.. The movie shows how both sides were fighting anxiously to go home and wanted to win.
The movie begins by showing us a French battalion being killed in Vietnam, which shows the countryï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s long colonial past. After that, U.S soldiers went to the Vietnam War to fight communism. The U. S soldiers used different tactics because the enemies outnumbered them. In order to survive, they had to kill many soldiers. One of the scenes shows the Americans being overrun by the enemy, and they call in a Broken Arrow, meaning they needed aircraft support to survive the last seconds of their lives. The movie also showed the yellow cabs that deliver death letters to soldiers wives, demonstrating what it was like for families in the United States who lost their husbands and fathers. Photographer Joe Galloway was at the battle pictures of the cruelty of the war. He is also the filmï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s narrator. The movie has many scenes showing the Vietnamese Soldiers and American Soldier fighting night and day.
The actors in the movie did really a good job making the audience believe their performances, many of which were shocking. The movie also showed all the different races of soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war. At the end of the battle, none of the U.S soldiers or Vietnamese soldiers wanted to talk about the war to any reporter because of the indescribable sadness they felt. The theme for this film is the bravery and leadership of all those Americans soldiers fighting for their families and to protect their country. This movie is recommended to all those who love history and want to know about their past. However the movie is well done and show us the ugly truth of war.
