Review of We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks (2013) by Kevin J — 14 Mar 2014
Fascinating, thorough examination of WikiLeaks, with a remarkably balanced and nuanced look at the complicated ethics of how/when/if to publish secret documents. Excellent filmmaking to keep it visually and intellectually captivating, but what really make this compelling is the way it reveals the personalities and motivations of the main players (Bradley Manning and Julian Assange), and the ripple effect of their actions on themselves and others.
It also gave me a much better understanding of the circumstances behind the sexual assault accusations against Assange from Sweden that had every appearance of being politically motivated. Hearing the full story was very powerful.
