Review of We Own the Night (2007) by Tyler L — 20 Jun 2009
Surprisingly a very good feature that grabs you as soon as it starts. Both in terms of conflict and action. It sucks you in to late 80's New York and the atmosphere that surrounds it, even the addition of the real New York Mayor at the time, Ed Koch, playing himself brings almost a sense of realism not seen in a New York setting on film since "Serpico". Joaquin Phoenix's character is both rebellious and cocky and over the course of the film you see his character transform out of conflict and loss. Mark Wahlberg, who plays his brother and Robert Duvall who plays his father bring there own aura to the film and Eva Mendes is terrific. Though by no means the greatest movie I have ever seen, but certainly a great film about family bonds and conflicts, and the pursuit of justice.
In short, Very good film and worth seeing.
