Stylish, nuanced camerawork and surreal discontinuity center on aura rather than narrative focus or, at all, purpose. Even so, Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin is an immersive, if not flamboyant, character study, and to redeem any deficits, both Swinton and Miller produce devastating performances.
