Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Sean H — 04 Mar 2013
Definitely not as good as the book (a cliche comment but the book is one of the most haunting I have read in recent memory) because it seems like Lynne Ramsay couldn't decide what kind of movie she was making.
Tilda Swinton is astonishing - of course! - but they cut out a lot of parts that gave more insight into Kevin's psyche, including that he handpicked the victims to lock in the gym. The first 20 minutes or so seemed the most uneven with the flashbacks to different points in time and I was not invested in the present day storyline of Eva back at work.
