Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Luke G — 28 Jul 2013
I think this may be the movie that I rave about for the next few weeks. We Need To Talk About Kevin is nothing short of a triumph in terms of the spectacular performances by Academy Award Winner Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton), Academy Award nominee John C.
Reilly (Chicago), and newcomer Ezra Miller (Perks of Being a Wallflower). I have to also commend Jasper Newell for his portrayal as the 8-year old Kevin. This film truly makes you think about the psychology of the adolescent youth and about a child's relationship with his or her parents.
The motifs of blood and red paint emphasize the need to move on while the past has a scary way of not letting go. The film takes place in an odd sort of flashback that is made easy by the spectacular director Lynne Ramsay.
Ramsay's screenplay and direction was spot on, flawless, and Academy Award worthy! This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, because of the dark plot that is made simple by the exuberant cast and director.
Superb! 10/10.
