Review of We Have a Pope (2011) by Alex H — 13 Mar 2012
A Pope is elected, but he decides he's not the man for the job, bolts from the Vatican and leaves the Curia in a lurch. Nice idea, but Nanni Moretti could have had a lot more fun with it. The college of Cardinals looks like a bunch of over-aged choirboys.
When they start playing volleyball under the tutelage of a psychoanalyst while in the Conclave, the movie borders on the ridiculous. Michel Piccoli's portrayal of the troubled Pope is delicate, thoughtful and sensitive, hence the two stars.
