Review of We Have a Pope (2011) by Jon B — 12 May 2012
Loved it. Just well-paced and content to linger. Funny and sad in the way European films can be. Whereas American comedys would be played more broadly, especially the Swiss Guard put up in the papal residence to impersonate the missing pope, this one goes for the laughs more subtly and effectively.
Thoughtful, warm and funny. Wish they had translated the songs, felt we missed something there. Still loved it. A film you live though instead of being pushed through. Much more like dining in Italy instead of being "fed" at McDonald's.
