Review of We Don't Live Here Anymore (2004) by Lemuel M — 21 Feb 2010
Two marriages, one in a stalemate the other in slow decline are given a rough make-or-break shake up as infidelity takes hold in this emotionally heated sexually charged romantic drama. Short, sharp and to the point with smooth unfussy direction and a good script (adapted from a couple of short stories).
The imagery is clever too, for example the bland beige and white furnishings of Krause/Watts' home resembles their detached, dull relationship. Which is in stark contrast to the Ruffalo/Dern nest which is messy and disorganised showcasing their own quietly chaotic desperation.
The quartet are excellent, though it's Laura Dern and in particular a soulful Mark Ruffalo who are the standouts.
