Review of We Don't Live Here Anymore (2004) by Nilufer E — 19 Oct 2009
The actors here outshine the material. Dern has some quality scenes and pulls off her anger and frustration quite well. Watts has some good moments, but both her and Krause are delegated to supporting roles that, while interesting, never get explored as much as Dern's and Ruffalo's.
Ruffalo is a good actor; someone I can enjoy in almost anything and always seems to give a worthwhile performance. Like I said though, the acting here is better than the actual film. These characters whine too much and do too little.
After a while this situation just feels too mundane and trite. There is a half-hearted attempt to involve the couple's children, but both the film and its characters are too frightened by that to do anything other than a cheap scene that feels like a rip-off from a cheap domestic thriller.
