Emotions ride high but they're sorely empty in "We Bought A Zoo." With far too many plot contrivances and lacking enough substance to support its already inoffensive, family-friendly melodrama, this uneven Cameron Crowe film doesn't seem to have a handle on what his screenplay is ultimately in search for: a purpose.
