Review of We Bought a Zoo (2011) by Adam F — 01 Mar 2013
"We Bought a Zoo" isn't what you think it is at first glance. It isn't shooting so low that only children can enjoy it and it isn't cheesy to the point of making your eyes roll. This really is a family film, a film that families can watch together and enjoy without having any fear that someone will get offended or upset.
This doesn't mean that children or adults wouldn't be able to watch it by themselves however. The film avoids cheap cliches and keeps the artificial heart tugging to a minimum because the director knows the story is interesting enough as it is and doesn't need anything artificially injected.
The acting is good and it has some likeable characters to keep the plot going. It might be a little sappy at times, but it's definitely enjoyable and will make you want to learn more about the true story.
