Review of We Are What We Are (2013) by David P — 18 Jan 2014
This is a perfect example of what a horror movie remake should be. Instead of being a paint-by-the-numbers retelling of the original plot director Jim Mickle took the basic concept and made it his own personal vision.
This film is not over-the-top horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes. It does not try to be sardonically funny like Ravenous nor does it go for cheesey and sleazy like Motel Hell.
It starts out as a dark and serious drama that slowly builds to a shoking horror movie climax. Director Jim Mickle gets better with each film he makes. I can't wait to see what he does with Joe Lansdale's Cold In July.
